Conversion of an existing internal garage into a habitable ground floor room

Brief:

To design, manage and carry out the conversion of an existing internal garage into a habitable ground floor room.

What we did:

The Construction Co were instructed to design, manage and carry out the conversion of an existing internal garage into a habitable ground floor room. As the room created additional living space all the work would need to be approved by Building Control and meet their guidelines for insulation, ventilation, damp-proofing etc.

The existing garage was stripped bare and the roller door removed. The existing foundation had to be exposed to be able to construct a new brick cavity wall to complement the existing brickwork at the front of the property. A new PVCu window was installed to the existing opening to match the existing surrounding windows.

A new timber floor structure had to be installed to raise the floor level to finish flush with the neighbouring room. New internal door, electrics, radiator, plastering and decorating were carried out to make room feel like it had always been there.

Key Points:

  • 3 weeks Start to Finish
  • Convert garage to internal room
  • Upgrading to meet building regulations
