Architecturally designed garden room with folding doors onto new decked area.


Existing Brief:

Using architects plans, The Construction Co were commissioned to construct a new garden room extension with pitched roof to tie into existing structural work. The extension required the client to maintain access to a sub level cellar and also structural landscaping around the new garden access doors.

What we did:

This architecturally designed garden room is truly stunning. This extension to the existing building added 14m² to the home and stunning views into the rear garden through folding doors and onto a new decked area.

This is no ordinary garden room though; it is a garden room with a difference. The extension was located over a pre existing cellar. This cellar was accessible through the existing building via an external stairwell down to the sub level. Structural work was carried out to remove the protruding stairwell and integrate a bespoke, specially designed new hidden access door into the floor to maintain cellar usage. A real talking point in any garden room!

The construction of this extension was predominantly a timber framed structure with steel supports to form the large openings. Below ground, the cellar structure received structural modifications to allow for the new modern garden room to be created above ground level. The pre existing cellar door access was converted into an opening for the client to gain access to the new garden room. The new access door for the cellar required the installation of a new pneumatic cellar hatch & handrail in the garden room floor over the existing stairwell to allow safe access to the existing basement. The finish of the extension was rendered & painted to match the existing property to achieve a seamless exterior. Aluminium bi-fold doors & full height windows allow for external access to the new garden room. Velux rooflights were also included into the pitched roof to allow for extra additional light to the room. A new external decking area to rear of the property finished the extension off perfectly. This decking leads to new & existing patio doors, tying the new to old giving the impression it had always been there.
